SIP Calls
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a communications protocol used for communicating between different devices on a company network, whether on the LAN, the WAN, or across the Internet. An example of this could be a simple two-way phone conversation, using voice over IP (VoIP) on the LAN or WAN or a SIP trunk across the Internet to a service provider.
With it you can stay in touch with your friends and family, but don’t need to worry about high phone bills. You can use your phone, mobile, tablet or computer to call at low rates and save money on your (international) call charges.
Connect offices and employees using the Internet, without having to pay for dedicated voice lines. Due to packet switching technology, you can achieve any redundancy level you want, without massive investments. Branches can be interconnected FREE, regardless of geographic location, as long as an internet connection is available.
What is SIP Trunking?
Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) trunking is the use of voice over IP (VoIP) to facilitate the connection of a private branch exchange (PBX) to the Internet. In effect, the Internet replaces the conventional telephone trunk, allowing an enterprise to communicate with fixed and mobile telephone subscribers worldwide.
A SIP Trunk provides the same service you get from a traditional analog phone line. The difference is, instead of being a physical wire, a SIP Trunk is a “virtual” phone line which is provided by a SIP trunk provider. They use your data circuit (E1, Cable Modem, DSL, Ethernet over Copper, etc) to connect your phone system back to their network.
Advantages of SIP Trunking
The cost savings and communications benefits of SIP trunking are substantial. Your company is most likely experiencing high costs with an existing PBX, while still having the constraints of the limited communications technology provided by your current Telco. High costs may be incurred through a combination of monthly phone bills, which include charges for incoming phone lines, long distance charges and IT and maintenance fees. We AXP will help you eliminate the high cost charges for phone calls and the telco's monthly fees.
Considerations Needed for SIP Trunking
To prepare your company for SIP Trunking, you need to assess the usage rates of your business communications. Specifically, you should consider how many people are on the phone at the same time during your busiest hours. The answer to this question will determine how many channels you will need.
In order to take advantage of SIP trunking, an enterprise must have a PBX that connects to all internal end users, an Internet telephony service provider (ITSP) and a gatewy that serves as the interface between the PBX and the ITSP.
